Description
The farm buildings immediately northeast of Trevellas Farmhouse consist of a barn and other structures that were remodeled from what was likely a former service range of the house, stables, and an engine house. These buildings date from the 18th century, with extensions made in the 19th century and in 1909. The walls are constructed of Killas rubble, some of which is roughly coursed, with granite and brick dressings, and mostly timber lintels over the openings. The roofs feature a steep grouted scantle slate covering with gable ends over the older range, a grouted scantle slate hipped roof over the stables, and Delabole slate hipped roofs over the engine house built in 1909.
The layout is irregular, featuring a long 18th-century range, possibly partly from the 17th century, with a shippon on the ground floor and a hayloft above. Behind the right side is a likely 19th-century parallel range, while mid-19th-century stables with a loft are positioned at a right angle behind the left side. Adjacent to the stables is a single-storey engine house from 1909, connected to the loft of the stables by a roofed bridge. An older horse-engine house once stood in front of the old barn.
The exterior is two storeys high and largely unaltered, showcasing old or original openings, including some old windows and shutters. The south front features older coursed masonry to the right, with a ground floor doorway now fitted with windows or blocks, and old shuttered windows on the first floor. The rear includes two loading doorways, one of which is blocked, two 19th-century windows with vertical glazing bars and random panes, and chamfered wooden lintels over two ground floor openings. The stables present a symmetrical two-window east front with a central doorway, with openings spanned by cambered brick arches.
Inside, the buildings have seen little alteration since the 19th century, retaining some old shippon standings, 19th-century first floor structures, and most of the roof structure, except for the right-hand end of the barn, which has a pegged roof structure from the 18th century. There is also evidence of a fireplace at the right-hand end.
