Rose Larrick

Rose Larrick is a farmhouse, later adapted for residential use. It largely dates from the late 18th century, with earlier origins in the 17th century. The building is constructed of roughly coursed slate stone, with a slate roof that is hipped at the right end, where a former barn is attached. The plan is based around a central passage. The front of the house has two storeys and originally three windows, now with late 20th-century plastic casements in the upper positions under the eaves, and similar casements in the ground floor openings, which retain segmental heads with voussoirs. A central 20th-century glazed porch shelters a four-panel door. Integral end stacks are visible, with red brick shafts, the right-hand stack being situated at the junction with the former barn. The barn has two late 20th-century plastic casements and a French window, the latter in an earlier opening, under the eaves. A stone mounting block is attached to the barn's right-end wall on the roadside. A lean-to kitchen has been added to the rear of the house, and a rear doorway in the passage has been replaced with a window. Inside, chamfered joists are present in two ground-floor rooms, the room on the right having slits for a former lath and plaster ceiling. Inglenook fireplaces with segmental wood lintels are in both rooms; the room on the left has clom ovens, whilst the right has the date "1798" carved into the left jamb. Original panelled window shutters and reveals are retained. The first-floor ceiling has exposed joists, and the roof of both the house and barn are collar truss roofs, the barn's being the earlier style and visible in the roof space.
