Description
The chest tombs near the east end of the south aisle of the Church of St Credan in Sancreed date from the 18th and early 19th centuries. They are made of dressed granite and slate. The easternmost chest tomb features dressed granite sides, a moulded granite lid, and an inset inscribed slate commemorating Alexander Marrack, who died in 1802 at the age of 52, his wife Blanch, daughter of William and Elizabeth Rowe, who died in 1807 at the age of 30, and their daughter who died in 1796 at the age of 1 day. The chest tomb immediately to the west of the Marrack tomb has incised decoration on the original lid and is inscribed to W. Thomas, who died in 1742 at the age of 73. The chest tomb immediately to the north of the Thomas tomb is made of slate slabs, but the incised inscription is indecipherable.
