Description
Hilldene is a house, now divided into flats, dating from the late 18th century. It is constructed of rendered and painted stone rubble, with a front elevation that is rendered in stucco. The building features a slate roof with gable ends and deep overhanging eaves at the front, along with brick stacks at the ends.
The layout consists of two rooms with a central cross passage, and the stair is located in a projection at the rear of the passage. There is a service range in a low two-storey wing at the back of the right-hand room, which may also date from the 18th century, as indicated by several straight joints in the right-hand side elevation. Additionally, there is a two-storey lean-to outshot at the rear of the left room.
The house has three storeys and a symmetrical front with three windows. On the ground floor, there is a central 20th-century panelled door, a wide 19th-century 10-pane sash window to the left, and an early 19th-century 16-pane hornless sash window to the right. The second floor features three early 19th-century 3 over 6 pane sash windows. The elevations remain largely unspoilt. The interior has not been inspected.
