Description

This is a farmhouse dating to around the middle of the 17th century. It is constructed of rendered and painted stone rubble and cob, with a rag slate roof featuring gable ends and two possible early ridge tiles. Stone rubble end stacks are also present. The original plan likely comprised two rooms and a through passage, with both rooms heated by end stacks. The front door is slightly right of centre, with the larger room on the left. Straight joints near the right-hand gable end suggest that this wall may have been rebuilt at some point. Straight joints in the rear wall, which are now incorporated into later extensions, hint at a stair projection to the rear of the left-hand room, close to the back door. A 18th or 19th century outshut extension runs across the rear.

The exterior presents a two-storey, almost symmetrical two-window façade. A late 19th century part-glazed door is set within a 20th century part-glazed gabled porch, with a 19th century two-light casement window to the left and a 19th century four-over-eight-pane sash window to the right. A continuous slate string runs above the ground floor openings. Two 19th century two-light casement windows are on the first floor.

Inside, roughly cut ceiling beams are visible. The fireplace in the left-hand room has a chamfered granite surround, with a cloam oven and creamer. A circa 18th century bench is attached to the front wall of this room. The right-hand room has a chamfered granite lintel over its fireplace. There are two-light timber mullion windows with a scratch moulded frame and mullion to the rear of the front left-hand room. A reset 17th century granite surround to the fireplace is found in the chamber above the right-hand room.
