Description
Cardew Farmhouse is a farmhouse that likely dates from the 17th century. It is constructed of painted stone rubble with some cob and features a rag slate roof, which has a gable end on the right and a hipped end on the left. There is a projecting end stack on the right with a brick shaft, and another brick shaft for the end stack on the left. An additional brick axial stack heats an outshut at the rear.
The house is built down a slope, with the higher end on the right. It has a two-room and cross passage plan, heated by the end stacks, with a larger hall-kitchen on the right and probably a parlour on the left. An outshut was added across the rear, likely in the 19th century.
The exterior is two storeys high and has a four-window front with an entrance to the left of centre. The entrance features a 20th-century plank door flanked by a 19th-century 20-pane sash window on the left and two 19th-century 2-light casements on the right. Above the ground floor openings, there are four 19th-century 2-light casements. The interior has not been inspected.
