Description
Lloyds Bank is a bank building constructed in 1867 by Henry Rice, located on The Parade in Liskeard. It features pink granite ashlar on a white granite ashlar plinth, topped with an asbestos slate roof that has crested pierced clay ridge tiles behind a pierced parapet. The building is designed in the Italianate style and consists of two storeys with a nearly symmetrical five-window front, arranged in a 2:1 2-bay configuration.
The façade includes rusticated end pilasters and similar pilasters flanking the central entrance bay. There are panelled aprons over the plinth, moulded ground-floor sills, and channelled rustications on the ground floor. A plain string course and frieze act as a fascia, while a moulded mid-floor string and entablature with consoles support the parapet. The ground floor features a round-arched doorway and segmental-arched openings, which contain plate glass and top-lights with two round-arched heads, except for a narrower doorway that has a panelled door and a two-pane overlight. The first floor has round-arched windows with original two-pane hornless sashes and hoods on consoles, and all openings are adorned with recessed architraves and keyblocks. The inner doorway includes a fanlight.
Inside, the bank has moulded ceiling cornices enriched with near Corinthian capitals between the left-hand windows. The right-hand room on the first floor features a moulded ceiling cornice with a carved band. This building is noted as the most elaborate and well-preserved Victorian bank in Liskeard.
