Description
Keats Cottage is a house that was formerly a farmhouse, dating from around the 18th century, with a likely earlier wing. The building is constructed of whitewashed, rendered cob and features a renewed slate roof with brick chimneys. The rear is partially slate-hung. The structure is one room deep and one room wide, with a projecting wing at the front right that has an outshut under a catslide roof, forming an L-plan.
An outbuilding is attached to the left end of the main range, which has a hipped left end and is now part of the house's accommodation. There is a gable end stack on the projecting wing that extends towards the outshut, indicating space for the original staircase. A second stack is located at the junction between the outbuilding and the main range.
The current entrance to the wing is through a porch with a sloping slate roof, positioned in the corner between the wing and the main range. The two-storey main range has two windows; the ground floor left window is blocked and was previously a door leading into the former outbuilding. The ground floor window on the right is a three-light casement with glazing bars, while the first-floor window on the left is a four-pane opening and the right window is a two-light casement with glazing bars. The interior has not been inspected but is said to feature early roof timbers.
