Description
Lower Spargo Farmhouse, including an adjoining outbuilding, is a farmhouse with parts of its walls dating from the late 16th century or 17th century, mostly rebuilt around the early 18th century. The building is constructed of painted granite rubble with some granite dressings, including reused 17th-century chamfered masonry. It has a slurried scantle slate roof and very large granite rubble stacks at the gable ends.
The farmhouse has a two-room plan, with later service rooms in an outshut or lean-to at the rear, which was not inspected. There is a central through passage that originally featured a 16th or 17th-century four-centred arched-chamfered doorway at the rear, now relocated to Higher Spargo. The outbuilding is positioned at right angles in front on the left side.
The exterior displays a symmetrical five-window front facing southeast, with a central doorway. The doorway features a 20th-century door, and the windows are also 20th-century replacements in their original openings. One window opening to the right of the doorway is blocked. The outbuilding contains some reused 17th-century chamfered masonry, and the wall that returns parallel to the front of the house has 18th-century triangular copings. The interior was not inspected.
