Description
Vivian's Shaft Headframe at Great Condurrow Mine is a small steel girder structure built in 1936, designed by Head Wrightson & Co. Ltd. of Thornaby-on-Tees and constructed by Holman Bros. of Camborne. It was erected in early 1937 by the staff and students of King Edward Mine.
The headframe consists of a steel girder tower positioned directly over the winding shaft, supported by a pair of extended legs known as boomstays. The entire structure is braced and triangulated for added strength and is mounted on elongated bearers that are bolted to a levelled platform surrounding the shaft opening.
