Description

The pump engine house on the site of Grenville United Mine is a derelict structure, likely built in the late 19th century. It is primarily constructed of uncoursed killas rubble with granite quoins, featuring a bob wall made of granite blocks and window arches of red brick. The upper stage of the chimney is made from engineering brick, and the building is currently roofless. The structure has a rectangular plan oriented on a north-south axis, with the bob wall located to the north and a circular chimney attached at the south-west corner.

The building consists of three stages and includes round-headed windows. The chimney is a tapered cylindrical design with two stages, featuring annular brick cornices at both the junction and the top. There is a former shaft located directly in front of the bob wall. This pump engine house functioned alongside a winding engine house located approximately 50 meters to the south-west, creating an interesting group of structures on a prominent site near the road. Historically, it housed a 60-inch Marshall's pumping engine and was part of a series of mines that exploited the Great Flat Lode.
