Description

The Count House and attached smith's shop at King Edward Mine, now used as offices, date from the late 19th century and have been altered. The building features pebble-dashed render, likely over rubble, and has corrugated sheet roofs. It has a rectangular plan with the smith's shop attached to the right end of the count house. The structure is two storeys high and consists of two sets of two bays, both elements being symmetrical. The count house has a central panelled door protected by an added lean-to porch, two windows at the ground floor with altered glazing, and two blocked windows above. It has a hipped roof without chimneys, and there is a lean-to store at the left end. The smith's shop, which is slightly lower, has a wide central doorway, two windows on each floor with altered glazing, and a hipped roof with a chimney on the right-hand side wall. The rear and interior of the building are not of special interest. Historically, this building originally belonged to South Condurrow Mine and was acquired around 1897 by Camborne School of Mines. It was renamed King Edward Mine in 1901 and is now part of a uniquely complete set of mine buildings at this site.
