Farm Building At Approximately 30 Metres South West Of Clowance Farmhouse

This farm building, located approximately 30 metres south west of Clowance Farmhouse, is a cartshed that was later converted into a shippon. It dates from the early 19th century. The front wall features closely spaced granite monolithic posts, with the spaces between them partly filled with rubble, except at the doorways. The roof is a scantle slate monopitch, built as a lean-to against part of a kitchen garden wall, with rubble and buttresses at intervals on the building side, and brick at the rear. Each buttress is topped with a ball finial. The building has a long rectangular plan with six bays; the north front was originally open and supported by granite posts. It was later converted into a shippon, with additional piers added along the front to create doorways, and some areas have rubble infill with ventilators above. The front remains unaltered since around the mid 19th century, retaining the original diagonally set wooden ventilator bars and ledged doors. Inside, the building has the original half king post roof structure with morticed and pegged joints. It is part of a group of unspoiled buildings arranged around a sloping, partly cobbled farmyard, all set within mature wooded surroundings.
