Description
The Old Parsonage is a rectory, now a private house, built in 1850 by William White. It is constructed from slate rubble with granite dressings and features scantle slate and dry slate roofs, along with axial and lateral rubble stone stacks that have bands. The building is designed in the Gothic style, with a deliberately irregular plan and elevations that create a romantic silhouette. It has two storeys and a stucco south-west façade.
The front has three windows: to the left, there is a pair of trefoil-headed two-light mullions with transoms; the middle bay features a flat-headed four-light shouldered-headed mullion; and to the right, a five-light trefoil-headed window sits under a two-centred shallow arch. The first floor has three-light trefoil-headed windows under steep gables, with the left gable displaying a hammer beam external truss. Most windows are made of granite and have plaster hoodmoulds, while those on other elevations lack hoodmoulds and display varied details, including a two-light window with a quatrefoil above on the entrance front. A bell cote is located on the gable of the single-storey south-east wing.
Inside, the Old Parsonage retains much original detail, including a corbelled and arched granite fireplace in the west room, a staircase with octagonal balusters, and a two-centred arch in the vestibule that springs from two levels. The interior also features exposed sash weights.
