Description
The Round House is a circa 1830 gazebo, originally part of Tregenna, which has been converted into a house. A 20th-century addition extends to the rear. The building is constructed of slatestone rubble with brick dressings, and has a hipped slate roof with a brick stack and cap on the rear slope.
The plan is octagonal, originally comprising a single room, with a winder stair to one side and an integral single-storey service wing. A single-storey addition of the 20th century is located to the rear left.
The two-storey front elevation features pointed arched two-light casements with four panes in the upper and lower sections and brick surrounds. A blocked former door opening is on the left side. A brick band course runs around the building. The first floor has curved triangular single-light windows on each side. The integral service wing to the right has a pointed arched casement to the front and two 20th-century three-light casements to the right side. It has a gable end to the rear and a slate ridge coping with trefoils. A single-storey 20th-century addition is present to the rear left, with an entrance on the right.
The octagonal front room contains a winder stair with turned balusters and a four-panelled door with a triangular head. The first-floor room is open to the roof, displaying principal rafters, a row of lapped tie beams and purlins.
The Round House occupies a prominent position on the edge of a creek.
