Description

Hatches House and Hatches Green Cottage are a pair of attached houses, likely originally built as one house in the late 17th century. They were extended in the early to mid 19th century, with some later alterations. The buildings are constructed of rendered stone rubble and feature an asbestos slate roof with gable ends. There are gable end stacks on the front range and a gable end stack to the left in the rear range.

In terms of layout, Hatches Green Cottage serves as the rear wing, while Hatches House is the front range. The original house was probably designed as a one-room plan, heated by a gable end stack on the left. The lower end room on the right is unheated and was likely built as a shippon before being incorporated into the house. In the early to mid 19th century, the house was re-oriented, adding a new range that faces the road on the left side of the original structure. The front range has a two-room plan with a central entrance, and each room is heated by a gable end stack.

The exterior of Hatches House is two-storey with a symmetrical three-window front, featuring 19th-century 12-pane sash windows. There is a central half-glazed 20th-century door with a decorative overlight. The roof is hipped to the left and has a gable end to the right, which is blind on each side. At the rear, there is a 20th-century window on the first floor and a small single-storey lean-to. Hatches Green Cottage, located at the rear on the right side, is also two-storey with an asymmetrical front. It has a 20th-century 12-pane sash window on both the ground and first floors to the left, along with a 20th-century lean-to porch and a 20th-century window above. There is a 20th-century single-storey addition to the front right, and the wall steps back to the right at the line of the stable addition.

The interior is not accessible for viewing.
