Description

Deviock Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the early 19th century, with additions from the later 19th century and some 20th-century alterations. It is constructed of stone rubble, with slate hanging to parts of the exterior, and has a slate roof with ridge tiles and gable ends. Chimneys with brick shafts are located at the gable ends. The plan is double depth, featuring a central entrance and principal rooms to the front, a rear central stair hall, and shallower service rooms to the rear, with the kitchen to the left and an unheated dairy to the right. A single-storey parallel block, built in the later 19th century, was attached to the rear, originally serving as a farm kitchen; its gable ends and right-hand gable stack have since been removed.

The front facade is nearly symmetrical, with three windows on each floor. All windows are 19th-century sashes. The upper floor windows have 16 panes, while the ground floor windows have a 16-pane sash to the right and a 20-pane sash to the left. A central, gabled, open-fronted porch has an inner, half-glazed, 19th-century door. A shuttered window is present on the right side at ground floor level, serving the dairy. The left side features an external stack and a 12-pane sash window at ground floor right, with a 9-pane sash window above. The rear elevation is slate-hung at first-floor level. The first floor has two 20th-century windows to the left, a 16-pane sash window illuminating the stairwell in the centre, and a two-light casement window to the right. Similar two-light casement windows are located on the ground floor to the right and left. A central, single-storey addition to the rear has a 20th-century casement window and a door to the right of the window; a stack has been removed.

The front left room has window shutters. First-floor rooms to the left and right have plain fireplaces with cast iron basket grates. The rear kitchen has a fireplace with a granite lintel and mantel with a gun rack over. The dairy has a slate floor and shelves, a central table, and a larder set within the thickness of the outer wall, with both inner and outer shutters. The rear kitchen addition includes a fireplace with a granite lintel and an oven with a cast iron door.
