Description

Cardeast Farmhouse is an early 19th-century farmhouse, with later 19th and 20th-century alterations. It is built of painted stone rubble, with a slate roof, ridge tiles, and gable ends. Brick chimney shafts rise from gable stacks.

The original layout comprised a two-room plan with a central entrance. The room to the right is larger than the smaller room and entrance to the left, with each room formerly heated by a gable-end stack. A central, one-room-plan service wing extends to the rear, also heated from a gable-end stack.

The front elevation is nearly symmetrical with three windows, all 19th-century 16-pane sash windows set in exposed boxes. A gabled and glazed porch, added in the late 19th century, dominates the central section. It features stained glass margin glazing to the sides, a half-glazed margin-glazed door, and a finial above. A later 20th-century half-glazed door is situated within. A single-storey lean-to is attached to the right side, featuring a four-pane light to the front and a side door. The rear service wing is two-storey and includes an 8-pane casement window with L-hinges at first floor. A 20th-century lean-to stands at the right side, with a door and window. The left side of the farmhouse is blind.

The interior has not been inspected but may contain original features such as a staircase, fireplaces, and joinery.
