Description

These pigsties, located approximately 15 metres north-east of Trevecca Farmhouse, date from the mid to late 19th century. They are constructed from slatestone rubble, with some granite monoliths and granite feed troughs, and feature a rag slate roof that is currently in a state of disrepair. The building has a rectangular plan with five sties, where the two end sties are of a deeper plan, likely intended for farrowing.

The structure is single-storey, with the yard front featuring a feeding door for each sty. The two end bays project slightly and have splayed returns, with all doors sheltered under a porch formed by the roof supported on posts between the end bays. The end pens have doors on the splay, with the left-hand door being full height while the others have aprons, all fitted with old boarded doors. The field front has five doorways, with two pairs of doors flanking a central doorway, and a slit ventilator to the left of the middle doorway and to the right-hand gable. The other gable is adjacent to a building not included in the listing.

Inside, the pigsties retain their original troughs, with stone walls separating the end pens from the other pens and slate partitions between the central pens. This building is noted for its unusual but effective design and is a rare example of its type.
