Description
Tretoil Farmhouse, now a house, dates from the early 19th century with later alterations. It is constructed of granite rubble with a dressed sandstone front. The roof is hipped and slate-covered, with stacks on either side featuring brick shafts. The plan is double-depth, with a central entrance and principal rooms to the front, and shallower service rooms to the rear, including a rear central stair. The house stands two storeys high with a basement containing service rooms, and a single-storey shed is attached to the rear left.
The symmetrical front has three windows and features a dressed sandstone facade with granite quoins. All windows are 4-pane sashes with brick segmental arches. The central doorway has a hipped hood supported by granite Doric columns. A 2-light casement is located at basement level on the right side. The rear elevation has a 16-pane sash window to the right and left at the first floor, and a central 12-pane sash window illuminating the stair. At ground floor, a 16-pane sash window is on the left, and a 4-pane sash is on the right, with a panelled door situated off-centre to the right, approached by an external granite staircase. A collar door is to the left, and a single-storey shed is attached to the right. The interior retains internal window shutters and likely contains other early 19th-century features.
