Description
Dorminack is a small house dating from the early 18th century. It is constructed of granite rubble with granite moorstone dressings and has a corrugated asbestos roof. A tall granite ashlar stack is located over the right-hand gable end. The original layout likely consisted of two rooms, which have now been combined into one room that serves as the kitchen and living area on the right, with a parlour on the left. Behind the kitchen, there is an integral outshut that was probably used for stairs and a pantry. Originally, there were chambers above the front rooms, but the floor has been removed, making it a single-storey building.
The exterior features a low front with signs of small upper floor windows, now reduced to a single storey. The nearly symmetrical two-window front has a doorway slightly to the left of the center and small window openings on both sides. The door and windows are from the 20th century, with a 12-pane, 2-light casement at the right-hand end and at the rear. Inside, the simple interior includes a large granite fireplace with a domed granite oven located behind its right-hand jamb. There are records from the Falmouth estate at Tregothnan that suggest a croft was established here around 1704, according to the tenant, Mr. D. Tangye.
