Description
The building is a piggery located approximately 100 meters west of Godolphin House. It was originally a mill, remodeled as a piggery and swill kitchen, dating from the 18th century or earlier, with significant alterations made around the mid-19th century. The structure is built of granite rubble, featuring dressed granite quoins, jambstones, and lintels. It has a grouted scantle slate roof with a brick chimney on the right-hand (east) gable end and two louvred pyramid-roofed ridge ventilators spaced evenly along the roof.
Originally a rectangular water-powered grist mill, the right-hand gable end and part of the back (north) wall still remain, indicating that there were possibly two phases of construction, with one part being higher than the other. The building was remodeled and extended in the mid-19th century into a long rectangular piggery, which includes six pig pens in the left two-thirds and a swill kitchen with a fireplace in the right-hand section. It is a single-storey structure with six regular doorways on the front (south) side, along with a wider doorway at the far right end. This piggery is part of a group of farm buildings that are historically related to each other and to Godolphin House.
