Description

Keepers Cottage is a cottage, likely dating to the 1790s, built probably for Francis Basset, Lord de Dunstanville. It was later enlarged and altered. The construction is of coursed granite rubble with quoins, topped by a thatched roof. The cottage has a square plan, though a large rear addition is not considered of particular architectural interest. The front of the building is in a Picturesque style, featuring a rectangular porch near the right-hand corner, which appears to be a 20th-century addition. This porch has a glazed and panelled door, leaded fenestration wrapping around it, and a hipped thatched roof. A two-light casement window with horizontal glazing bars is situated near the left corner of the front wall. The right-hand return wall has a similar window and a bow to the right, featuring a curved window comprising three arched lights, also with similar glazing. A pyramidal roof with deep eaves and an apex chimney completes the exterior. The rear of the cottage and its interior were not inspected. The style is comparable to Eastern Lodge and South Lodge, South Tehidy.
