Description

This is a group of three chest tombs located about 45 meters north of the west end of the Church of Saint Wenappa in Gwennap. The tombs date from the late 18th century to the early 19th century and are constructed with granite ashlar sides and slate lids. Each tomb is rectangular in shape and oriented from west to east.

The southern tomb features a granite border on the lid with a robust angled torus moulding and an incised slate inscription commemorating Loveday Laynten, who died in 1795 at the age of 33, and Richard Harvey, who died in 1799 at the age of 38. The northern tomb has three courses of ashlar on the sides and a plain incised slate lid, inscribed for Philippa, the daughter of Michael and Jane Williams, who died in infancy, as well as Michael Williams, who died in 1821 at the age of 51, and Jane Williams, who died in 1813. The eastern tomb is made of monolithic sides and has a granite border with a cavetto cornice on the lid, featuring an incised slate inscription for William Simmons, who died in 1793 at the age of 47, Thomas Simmons, who died in 1840 at the age of 73, and others.
