Description
This is a headstone commemorating John Worden, located 1 metre to the northeast of the east corner of the north aisle of the Church of St. James in St Kew. It dates from 1817 and is made of slate, featuring a rectangular shape. The headstone has an inscription set within an incised aedicular surround, with sun-bursts in the right and left-hand corners. The inscription includes a verse that reads: "Lo! hear I lie cut down in youthful prime where all must come when God appoints the time. The Lord thought fit I should no longer stay And from this earth he call'd my soul away." John Worden was the son of John and Priscilla Worden of Lower Amble.
