Description
This is a headstone located about 5 metres south of the southeast corner of the south porch of the Church of St. Thomas in Kentisbury. It dates from 1820 and is made of slate. The headstone features a shouldered nowy head and has elaborate incised decoration, including a verse around the head. There is a figure of an angel blowing a trumpet, with open books on each side. The book on the left is inscribed with the words "Life how short," while the book on the right reads "Eternity how long." The headstone commemorates James Lovering Dennis, who died in 1820.
