Description

The Tavernan Carow Public House is a mid-19th century public house located on Station Road in Liskeard. It is constructed of coursed slatestone with brick and stucco dressings on the front, while the right-hand side features slate hanging and the rest is made of rubble. The building has a hipped grouted rag slate roof with two stuccoed axial stacks and projecting eaves supported by a modillion cornice.

The structure is two storeys high and has a front with three bays, featuring a recessed central bay that includes a three-light window above a pair of round-arched doorways. The other bays have two-light windows, with segmental-arched windows on the first floor to the left and right, and round-arched windows elsewhere. All windows have original two-pane hornless sashes, with moulded arches, stepped imposts, and caps over the mullions and sills supported by brackets. The rear wing contains sashes with glazing bars.

Inside, the public house retains many original features, including some moulded ceiling cornices and an open-well staircase. This building is a notable and well-preserved example of a public house that served the Cornwall Railway passengers.
