Description
The tombchest of Mary Grose is located 9 metres to the south of the east end of the chancel of the Church of St. James. It was created in 1794 in memory of Mary, the daughter of Richard and Elizabeth Grose, who passed away that same year. The tombchest is made of brick and features a slate lid. The inscription is presented in upper and lower case with serifs and includes the verse: "Weep not for me my Parents dear Because I'm gone so soon. The morning sun that shines so bright It often clouds at noon."
