Description

Milltown House is a circa early 18th-century building with garden walls to the front. It is constructed of stone rubble with a moulded plinth, and the front and left-hand side elevations are hung with rag slates. A large central brick stack features 19th-century terracotta chimney pots, while a stone rubble lateral stack has a brick shaft serving an outshut. The building follows a double-depth plan, with a central entrance flanked by a large reception room to the left and a staircase on the front right. An integral service outshut runs across the rear, and a later outshut on the right may house a secondary staircase.

The symmetrical two-storey front has three windows. A flight of dressed granite steps leads to the central entrance, which has an 18th-century pedimented doorcase and a circa late 19th-century door. The windows are likely original 18th-century mullion and transom windows; the first floor has three, possibly originally two-light casements. A rendered two-storey outshut is located on the right-hand side.

The front garden walls are of circa 18th-century stone rubble with slate coping, ramped at the corners. The interior appears complete and unaltered. A circa 18th-century staircase features a closed string, square newels, turned balusters, and a moulded rail. The room to the left has a moulded dado rail and a heavy, multiple-moulded cornice. Other features include a large moulded 18th-century chimney-piece, an 18th-century china cupboard, raised and fielded panelled shutters.
