Description
The Glume Stove House and associated structures, located approximately 40 meters west of Kennal Vale House, date back to 1812. These buildings include a chimney, boiler house, and drying house, constructed from killas and granite rubble with granite dressings. The plan features a complete round chimney at the east end, adjacent to a square-on-plan boiler house, which connects to a larger drying house. Both the boiler house and drying house are roofless and partly in ruins, situated on a steep slope in the Kennal Valley, with a walled platform in front.
The exterior is single-storey. The left-hand building has part of its front wall missing but retains the jambs of former openings. The right-hand building is set back and features a doorway to the left of the center, with another doorway in the right-hand return wall next to a tapered rubble stack. A high retaining wall in front provides access through a wide doorway at the far left. This site was used for drying pellets of gunpowder before storage and is considered one of the most complete examples of its type in southern and western England.
