Description

SW33NE ST JUST PENDEEN

881/3/10048 Boundary and Garden Walls to Pendeen Lighthouse

GV II

Boundary walls to Pendeen Lighthouse. Coursed granite rubble with ashlar quoining and dressed segmental copings. To the west the battered walls function as retaining walls, to the north are pyramidal piers flanking the main driveway to the house, and to the east there are 3 flights of steps which rise through steeply-sloping ground to 3 walled gardens. The walls form an integral part of the complex associated with the lighthouse (qv) at Pendeen. They provide witness to the fact that the cap of the headland had to be removed and flattened in order to accommodate the site.
