Description
The headframe over Skip Shaft at Levant Mine is a small timber structure built by Geevor Mine in the 1960s. It is linked to an electric winding engine located in a nearby concrete building. The headframe is designed as a wooden tower positioned directly over the winding shaft and is supported by two extended legs known as boomstays. The entire structure is reinforced with bracing and triangulation for added strength and is mounted on elongated bearers that are bolted to a leveled platform around the shaft opening. Uniquely, the headframe is clad in plywood sheeting, as the shaft was later used as part of the Geevor underground ventilation control system. The winding wheel, cage, and shaft furniture are all still present.
