Description
A row of nine early 19th century town houses, numbered 1-9, located on the south east side of Union Place in Truro. The houses are stucco-fronted with natural slate roofs to number 2, and asbestos slate to the others. The roofs have projecting eaves supported by wooden brackets, and a hipped end to number 1. Brick end stacks are also present. The houses are built to a double-depth plan, with one room at the front and an entrance hall to the left, though number 1 has smaller rooms to the left of the hall. The row presents an overall 20-window frontage, with each house generally having a two-window front, except for number 1 which has four windows. The doorways have round arches, with fanlights above the panelled doors; the fanlight above the door to number 1 is spoked. Stucco architraves frame the doorways to numbers 1-4, while the others have plain openings with keyblocks. The windows are original sash windows with glazing bars, with margin panes to the ground-floor sashes and to the first-floor windows on the left side of number 1. Interior spaces, where inspected, retain original carpentry, joinery, and plasterwork, including moulded and carved ceiling cornices and bands.
