Description

No. 14A and the chantry at the rear are a town house and chantry, now used as commercial premises. They date from the mid to late 18th century, with an older range possibly from the 17th century at the back. The building features an ashlar plinth and render that has replaced stucco on rubble, topped with an asbestos slate roof that has wide eaves. There is a brick axial stack towards the right of the front range and an external stone lateral stack on the right side of the rear wing.

The layout is double-depth, with two reception rooms at the front, the wider room on the right, flanking an entrance hall, plus an older deep range at the rear right. The building stands three storeys high and has a regular four-window front facing the street. It includes a plinth, string courses, and brackets under the eaves. The doorway, located towards the left, features panelled pilasters, a triangular pediment, and panelled reveals. The early 19th-century hornless sash windows have glazing bars, except for a horned copy on the first floor to the left. At the rear, there is an 18th-century first-floor sash with thick glazing bars and a tall round-headed stair sash with a spoked fanlight head. The interior has not been inspected but is likely to be of interest.
