Description

This is a barn with a shippon (animal shelter) situated west of Higher Wollaton. It likely dates from around 1900. The barn is constructed of rubble stone with a slate roof, featuring half-hipped ends on both sides. The symmetrical south-east front has two storeys. The ground floor features three round arches made of cut stone. Above the arches is a central pair of double threshing doors, from which the hood has been removed, with slits on either side. Rubble stone wings flank the ends of the barn; the right-hand wing is contemporary, also two storeys with a half-hipped end, while the left-hand wing is an addition with a lean-to roof. The rear elevation has a sloping roof leading to a central opening covered by a slate hood, flanked by two narrow slits. The barn is included on the heritage register for its contribution to the group value of Higher Wollaton.
