Description
The Isbell Tomb is a chest tomb located in the churchyard of the Church of St Nonna in Altarnun. It dates from the early 19th century, around 1800. The tomb features a stone structure with a straight slab top and reeded corners, set on a plinth. It is surrounded by wrought-iron railings with spearheaded tops and urn finials at the corners. This tomb is historically significant as it marks the grave of Digory Isbell, who died in 1795 at the age of 77. Isbell was notable for extending his house, Wesley's Cottage in Trewint, to create a meeting room and accommodation for Methodists, contributing to the development of Methodism in Cornwall.
