The Copper House and Walls Adjoining

The Copper House and adjoining walls is a small country house built around 1810 as an estate office and account house, with extensions added in the early 19th century. The front is made of granite ashlar, while the rest of the building is constructed from rubble. It features a hipped dry Delabole slate roof with a central valley for the main block and hipped scantle slate roofs for the wings. There are brick chimneys on the side walls.

The house has a double-depth plan with a principal room on either side of a central stair, and service or secondary rooms located behind. There are later single-storey, one-room wings at each end and a service wing at the centre rear, creating a symmetrical layout. The east front has five windows that are symmetrical and unaltered, with flanking slightly recessed one-window wings of a slightly later date, all featuring original 16-pane sash windows. The central part has original 12-pane hornless sashes with much of the original crown glass. The building has a plinth and shallow brick arches with projecting keystones.

The central doorway is framed by an original wooden porch with paired pilasters and a simple entablature, leading to an original six-panel door. The sides and rear of the house are also original and have seen little alteration. It has cast iron ogee gutters.

Inside, there is an original dog-leg stair with stick balusters and a mahogany handrail over a turned newel. The original window shutters, doors, and door surrounds feature moulded architraves with roundels in the corner blocks. The right-hand (north) front room has a panelled ceiling cornice. This house is noted for being unusually complete and unaltered both internally and externally.
