Description

Berry Tower is a ruined structure that remains from the Chapel of the Holy Rood, built between 1501 and 1514. It is constructed from coursed squared local stone with granite window dressings and is currently roofless. The tower is square in shape and features an enclosed internal stair turret located at the northwest corner.

The tower consists of three stages, with string courses dividing each stage. The lower stage includes the springing of a relieving arch for the west doorway and a hoodmould over a pointed window above it. The second stage has the sill, right-hand jamb, and part of the five-foil head of the right-hand light from a former two-light window. The upper stage retains remnants of similar windows on each side, with the north, east, and south windows featuring hoodmoulds. The east window has two cinquefoil heads, while the north and south windows each have a half-head, and there is part of a hoodmould over the west window.

Near the northwest corner, there are stair ventilators or windows, and some unblocked putlog holes are also visible.
