Description
No. 21 Castle Street is an early to mid-19th century town house. The front is rendered on a rubble base, with a rag slate roof featuring two hipped dormers, each with a late 19th-century four-pane horned sash window. Brick end stacks rise above the roofline, and a cast-iron ogee gutter runs along the eaves. The house follows a double-depth plan. It presents a symmetrical three-window front. The original windows were 12-pane hornless sashes, but these have been replaced with later horned copies. A central doorway is sheltered by an early 20th-century glazed porch with a moulded eaves cornice, approached by a straight flight of stone steps. Late 19th-century dormers light the attic. A carriage doorway, also to the right, provides access to the basement/carriage house and has an early 20th-century planked and framed door. The interior was not inspected, but is likely to contain features of interest.
