Description
The barn immediately southwest of Tregerthen Farmhouse is likely a granary over stables, dating from the mid to late 19th century. It is constructed of granite rubble with granite dressings and features a grouted scantle slate roof with gable ends. The building has a rectangular plan, with two loose boxes on the ground floor and a large loft above. There are approximately central opposing loading and winnowing doorways, along with a flight of external steps leading to a rear doorway.
The exterior is two storeys high and nearly symmetrical, with a two-window east front where the openings are slightly grouped towards the right. There are two doorways on the ground floor, one towards the left and one towards the right, along with ground and first floor windows on either side. The first floor loading doorway is centrally located in relation to the windows. The doors are 20th-century ledged doors, and the windows have slatted ventilators with glazed top lights. The interior has not been inspected. This barn is part of an unspoiled coastal hamlet situated within the ancient field system of this area of Cornwall.
