Description
This is a barn located to the southeast of Somerton Farmhouse, dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed from stone rubble, granite, and moorstone, and features a corrugated asbestos roof with gable ends. The barn has a rectangular plan, with a shippon on the ground floor and a threshing floor above, situated on a slope that descends to the left.
The building is two storeys high, with the lower side on the left. There are two doors on the ground floor, and a central external stone rubble stair with granite treads leading up to the threshing floor. The ground floor has a plank door, and there are openings in the lower left gable end on both the ground and first floors. There is also an opposing door for the threshing floor at the rear.
Inside, the barn features ceiling beams and roof structures that date from the late 19th and 20th centuries. The barn is part of a group with Somerton Farmhouse.
