Description
This is a farmhouse and adjoining barn located to the west of the settlement at Bennacott, with origins dating back to the early 17th century and extensions made in the mid-19th century. The building features a combination of rendered and painted stone rubble, cob, and stone rubble in the front range, complemented by brick dressings. It has a rag slate roof with gable ends, and a parallel range at the rear, also with a rag slate roof and gable ends. The front range includes a brick end stack on the left and a projecting stone rubble end stack on the right, while the rear range has large stone rubble end stacks.
The interior was not accessible during the survey, but it is believed that the rear range, likely from the 17th century, has a two-room plan with a possible through passage, heated by end stacks, with the ground sloping down to the left. In the mid-19th century, a second parallel range was added to the front, also featuring a two-room and passage plan, which accommodates the two principal front rooms, while the service rooms are located in the earlier rear range. There is also a rectangular plan barn from the 18th century located on the lower left side of the earlier range.
The exterior is two storeys high with a regular three-window front on the mid-19th century range, featuring a 19th-century porch near the centre, flanked by two 16-pane hornless sash windows, and three 12-pane sash windows on the first floor. The rear elevation of the earlier range has a single window front with a 20th-century glazed porch and 20th-century metal-framed windows. The barn was added on the lower left side in the 18th or early 19th century. The interior remains inaccessible.
