Description
The building is a barn and stables located 10 metres northeast of The Engine Public House, dating from around the mid-19th century for the barn and later in the 19th century for the stables. It is constructed from granite rubble with granite dressings and features a grouted scantle slate roof, with a half-hipped roof over the barn and a gable-ended roof for the stables.
The barn has a rectangular plan and includes opposing loading and winnowing doorways towards the right of the loft, which is accessed by a flight of granite steps at the rear. The stables, which may also have served as a shippon, are built almost adjoining the front right side of the barn at an obtuse angle.
In terms of exterior details, the barn is two storeys high while the stables are single storey. The barn has a slightly irregular façade with one window, a central doorway on the ground floor, and a window on either side. There is a loading doorway on the first floor to the right and a window to the left. The stables have a symmetrical front with two windows and a central doorway, featuring ledged doors and hopper windows.
