Description

The Shepherds United Powder House is a magazine for storing black powder, used in the Old Wheal Rose silver lead shafts. It was likely built between 1820 and 1830. The structure is made of uncoursed killas stone rubble, with brick quoins at the entrance. It features a restored Delabole stone slate roof and has a circular plan. The entrance door, located on the east side, has been renewed along with its frame. The walls are approximately 60 centimeters thick. The building underwent restoration and roof renewal in 1986-1987, with sheet plywood installed on closely spaced radial rafters. This is the only building that remains on the sett.
