Description

The Vicarage is a former vicarage now functioning as a private house, built around the 1830s and extended at the rear in the 1860s. The building is constructed from stuccoed stone rubble, with the rear extension featuring slate hanging. It has a slate roof with hipped ends and a gable end on the rear wing, a central valley, and deep overhanging eaves. There are brick stacks located on the end wall, on the ridge, and on the end of the north wall.

Originally, the plan was 'L' shaped, featuring two main reception rooms on the south garden front, but the later extension created a rectangular double depth plan. The house is two storeys high with a cellar and has a regular four-window east front. The entrance features a wide doorcase with a moulded frame, supported by consoles that hold a moulded cornice. The panelled door has two glazed lights with flanking glazed lights. To the right of the entrance, there are two 12-pane sash windows with thin ogee glazing bars and crown glass, followed by a 19th-century two-light casement window with glazing bars and iron stanchion bars.

On the first floor, there are three 3/6-pane sash windows with thin ogee glazing bars, horns, and crown glass, and to the right, there is a 20th-century canted oriel window. A stair window at the rear features radiating thicker glazing bars. In the extension, there is a four-pane sash window, a panelled door, and a tripartite sash window, with reused 12-pane sashes above, similar to those on the front.

Inside, the south reception rooms retain simple moulded cornices and black and white marble chimney pieces. There is a closed string staircase with square balusters, a turned newel, and a moulded rail. The property also includes a wine cellar with racks, a complete dairy with a channel for water from an outside well, and an intact butter well. Additionally, there are complete 19th-century cupboards, doors, and panelling.
