Description

This is a terrace of five houses, numbers 22 to 26, located on the south-east side of Fremantle Square, Cotham, and built around 1850 by William Armstrong. The houses are constructed of stucco with limestone dressings, and have a hidden roof. They are designed in a Late Georgian style, each house being three stories high and arranged with a two-window frontage. The facades are articulated by pilasters extending to a stepped cornice and parapet. The left-hand doorways are semicircular-arched, supported by consoles to moulded canopies, and feature six-panel doors with tear-drop fanlights. Number 22 has a later 20th-century porch with moulded jambs. The windows are largely original, with 6/6-pane sashes, the second-floor windows being smaller and set within semicircular-arched recesses. Inside, a dogleg winder staircase rises above the left-hand doorway and features turned balusters and newels. Attached to the front of the terrace are spear-headed area railings.
