Description
St Ursula's High School is a mid-19th century house that has been converted into a school. The building features a rendered exterior with limestone dressings and a slate hipped roof, designed in a mid-Georgian style. It has two storeys and a five-window range, with a symmetrical front that includes clasping pilasters, a plat band, a cornice, and a parapet. The entrance porch is supported by paired Tuscan columns and has a cornice with 20th-century glazing, leading to a semicircular-arched doorway adorned with a decorative teardrop fanlight and a lantern. The windows are horned 6/6-pane sashes. On the left side of the building, there is a projecting three-window section with windows set in semicircular arches, while the first floor features plain windows in the middle. A notable four-storey campanile tower is also present.
Inside, the entrance hall contains a rear lateral open-well staircase with wrought-iron balusters and cast decoration, complemented by a banded wreathed rail and curtail. A semicircular-arched stained-glass window illuminates the stairway, and there is a rear doorway with panelled reveals, along with panelled shutters and six-panel doors throughout.
