Description
The Old Tramways Depot is a tram depot, dating to 1906, now used as a car showroom. It was designed by WH Watkins for the Bristol Tramways Company. The building is constructed of brick and roughcast, with tile hipped and gable roofs. It comprises double-depth offices to the left and an open-plan garage to the right. The architectural style is Domestic Revival. The two equilateral gables over the garage have modillioned cornices and eaves, and oculi with oak-leaf surrounds; in the centre is an Ionic column, and to the sides, piers of alternate brick and roughcast. The offices have brick plinths below the roughcast, and an entrance in a corner turret with a two-leaf door, cornice over, and modillion eaves to a conical roof with a leaded finial. Two matching dormer gables are present in the left return. The interior was remodelled around 1980.
