Description
No. 7 Bridewell Street is an attached house that has been converted into a shop and office. It dates from the late 18th century, with a shop front added in the late 19th century. The building features a limestone ashlar exterior, brick party wall stacks, and a slate curved mansard roof. It has a double-depth plan and stands three storeys tall with an attic, showcasing a four-window range. The building has a curved corner design with a shop front, and the upper floors have a 1:2:1 window arrangement separated by pilasters, which are connected by a first-floor sill band leading to a frieze, cornice, and parapet. The shop front includes panelled jambs with foliate consoles and a fascia, as well as plate-glass windows, with a 20th-century section on the right. The windows above have architraves and consist of horned 6/6-pane sashes, with the left-hand end being blind. There are also two small dormers. Inside, there is a 20th-century stair and ground-floor shop area. The building reflects the style of Thomas Paty's late 18th-century rebuilding of the city centre.
