Description
The walls, piers, gates, and railings surrounding St John's Burial Ground date from the 18th century. They are constructed from limestone ashlar piers and red Pennant rubble walls, complemented by wrought-iron gates and railings. The tall capped piers feature faceted panels at the entrance from Tailor's Court. Along John Street and Tower Lane, there are capped piers, coped walls, and railings supported by bracketed barleysugar stanchions topped with fleur-de-lys heads. This structure forms a cohesive group with the nearby houses around the flagged Tailor's Court and represents an uncommon inner city burial ground.
